Synopsis:
The Johnson family is informed by the ruling British authority that their home will be used to quarter English military officers. Angered by the invasion of space and privacy, Mary and her sister Beth prepare the household for the English intruders. When the young officers arrive to take up their quarters, Beth and Mary are prepared to hate their unwanted guests, but Lieutenant Henry Baker, with his gentle, considerate demeanor, soon melts Mary’s cold dislike. Henry and Mary develop an unlikely friendship that soon flourishes into love. Beth, however, remains hostile, and she is displeased and disturbed that her sister would love one of the enemy’s officers. She sets about to devise methods of separating her sister from the Englishman, and with the aid of her eccentric little brother, puts such impediments in their way so that they may never be able to be together.
